All the buildings streets stones... are historical around Rogier! Apart from the typical Amsterdam-style houses built centuries ago, and -particularly in this area-, described very well in almost every guide book, you will also find temporary monuments close by, even in front of your... window!
The HELP sign and the remembrance stone under it, is a statement Against Violence: Joes Kloppenburg lost his life on this spot, while protecting a homeless man from his attackers.
No big statues in Holland, like elsewhere in Europe for (the ancient or temporary) heroes. The Dutch rather keep it 'small & simple'. But, how extremely powerful can 'simple' be!  Just ask your neighbours in the shop right opposite you (when they have a smoking brake), to translate, -word for word!- what is written on the pavement...
